Harriet Stanford
Harriet Stanford is a Community Advisor with Strategies North. Before joining SN in 2018, Harriet studied Geography with a concentration in Urban, Health, and Development Studies at the University of Victoria, worked in a municipal planning department with a focus on heritage policy, and lived abroad including in The Netherlands and South Africa. Harriet has just completed a Masters degree in Nordic Urban Planning Studies through a joint program with the Arctic University of Norway, Roskilde University, and Malmö University. She spent much of this time in Tromsø at the world’s northernmost university, 350km north of the Arctic Circle, learning about how communities can thrive in harsh and remote environments. Her thesis research focused on First Nations housing programs and policy in Canada, in particular looking at planning considerations for making housing better suited to a community’s unique context. Harriet now calls Whitehorse home, where she enjoys all that the great outdoors has to offer.
